JACKSONVILLE, Texas (AP) — The Civil Air Patrol says a small plane has been found in an East Texas Lake and it’s believed to be an aircraft that was reported missing.
Lt. Col. Rick Woolfolk says searchers in a boat located a plane around 5 a.m. Thursday in Lake Palestine (PAL’-uhs-teen). The fate of the pilot was not immediately known.
KLTV-TV reports the site is near Berryville. Woolfolk says sonar was used to find the submerged plane, in about 20 feet of water. Divers were being dispatched to the scene.
Woolfolk says the pilot was alone Wednesday afternoon when he flew from Aero Estates, in the Jacksonville area, to Frankston to refuel and then head home. A relative Wednesday night reported the plane was overdue.
The pilot’s name hasn’t been released.
