The Denton Rotary Club recently partnered with the Civil Air Patrol to present Daniel Bishop, a CAP cadet, with the Service Above Self Award.

The award was presented to Bishop at a December awards banquet held by the Denton Nighthawk Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, according to a news release from the Rotary Club.

Bishop completed more than 72 hours of community service in 2012, and much of this time was spent at the Rocky Top Therapy Center, an equine therapy center that helps children and adults with special needs.

Bishop volunteered three to four hours each Tuesday by leading horses for the class, side-walking and working with riders directly, or doing a number of other necessary tasks such as grooming and cleaning the center’s barn and arena.

Bishop has volunteered more than 400 hours to the community in the last few years, the news release stated.

“Rotary is based on putting service to others above self, and so we were honored to be a part of recognizing this young man for his incredible service to our community,” said Karen Dickson, president of the Denton Rotary Club.
